Corning Releases “A Day Made of Glass 2”
Corning created quite the buzz in the industry when they created their “A Day Made of Glass” video a year or so ago. The futuristic video demonstrates where we will be some day as display technologies evolve.
At the Digital Signage Expo in Las Vegas last week, Dr. Peter Bocko, CTO for Glass Technologies Group at Corning, unveiled “A Day Made of Glass 2: Same Day”. In this video he follows the kids to school and expands on the telemedicine applications for new glass technologies.
Among the new technologies portrayed are flexible glass used to customize an automobile dashboard and glass that reproduces audio.“Modern displays are still bricks and boxes,” he said, referring to the form factors of smartphones/tablets and display screens. And because of this, the relationship between people and devices is backward, with people’s environments and users’ lifestyles dictated by the limitations of the device form factor, he said. People set up their living rooms to fit their TVs, and not the other way around, he said.
The future of glass displays is exciting and it will surely shape the Digital Signage industry for years to come.
