Telehealth Enhancement Act receives support from Telemedicine Association
Big news today as the American Telemedicine Association (ATA), the leading international resource and advocate promoting the use of advanced remote medical technologies, announced its support for the Telehealth Enhancement Act, H.R. 3306, which was recently introduced by Representatives from Vermont, Mississippi, and two from California. This Congressional proposal calls for the adoption of payment innovations to include telehealth and make other incremental improvements to existing telehealth coverage. According to Jonathan Linkous, Chief Executive Officer at ATA, “these provisions are critical to the future of healthcare in the U.S. in that they will save Medicare and Medicaid dollars and improve lives.”
Some of the provisions listed in the bill that are expected to impact health fund savings include:
- Add incentive for fewer Medicare hospital readmissions
- Create new Medicaid optional package for high-risk pregnancy and birth networks
- Cover telehealth services under Medicare payment bundles for post-acute care
- Allow Medicare Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) to use telehealth like Medicare managed care plans
- Facilitate Medicare home-based kidney dialysis
The Executive leadership at Trinity Video Communications applauds this recent announcement and the ongoing efforts to further advance telemedicine by both the ATA and members of Congress, and are excited to see what the future holds for this important healthcare technology.
